If your child has decided to move to a college that is closer to home, it can take time for them to get settled in. This is especially true if you no longer have room for their things. You may have already taken over their entire room or part of their room and turned it into a home office, craft room, sewing room, or simply a room for extra storage space. Below are some tips on how you can make room for them so you can keep your home organized.
Use a Storage Facility
You can put all of the things you have in that room into a storage unit until your child moves out again. If there are not a lot of things you need to store, there are mini storage units you can rent. This can save you money from renting a large unit.
When looking for a storage facility, consider the security. Look for one that at least has a gate around their property. Some have security systems installed, and larger facilities have a security guard on duty at all times.
Climate control inside of the unit should also be offered. This will keep your things safe, especially anything that is electronic that can be damaged by high heat, high humidity, or extreme cold.
Visit the facility when it is dark to see if it is well lit, such as light in the hallways and driveway.
Sell Your Items
If you have extra items you have accumulated that you do not use or no longer need, consider selling them. You can have a yard sell or sell them to the local thrift store. There should be pawn shops in your area that will offer you money for your things as well.
You can sell your items online also. This puts your items in front of more people so you might sell everything faster. If you choose to do this, make sure you take very clear pictures of every item. Set a deadline on your sale to encourage buyers to make a purchase. Use the headline to your advantage by clearly stating what you are selling.
In the description, you want to add all of the pertinent details, but you need to keep it short. If any items have any flaws, put this in the description. If you have a lot of items that go together, such as your clothes, batch them together.
